Yesterday Caitlin, Sarah, Crosky, Brandon and I went down the Yadkin River on two inflatable rafts. The trip (according to Joe) was supposed to take three hours. Well, it didn't - first, because Joe was wrong and second because we had to pull of the side while a thunder storm passed. We put our rafts up in a tree and stood under them and waited for 45 minutes...and with a wet lighter, so no cigarettes or pot. Not only that but we saw 2 dead dogs in the river - the same kind and about 50 yards apart, it was horrifying. It got dark before we could reach the take out so we stopped early next to/under a bridge on 421. We called my mom to come pick us up on the side of the highway thinking we could make it to the bridge in 15 minutes. Before I describe the shit we went through heres what we carried with us the whole damn way - a raft full of 5 lifejackets, the other deflated raft, 4 inner tubes, a gallon of water, 4 ores, clothes and shoes and a heavy book bag on our backs. Brandon, Sarah and I were barefoot and this was ALL done in the dark with only 3 cell phones for light. Okay so...we had to climb up a small but very steep and muddy hill, run through a huge field of soybeans (where I lost my shoes), walk through a creek/ravine, walk on top of briars, climb a fence with barbed wire, walk through the woods until we found a spot that wasnt a huge ravine, crawl under another barbed wire fence, crawl over an overgrown fence taller than me with barbed wire on it, and make a trail over a massive amount of thorns with the rafts and inner tubes up to the side of the highway. We go out of the river at dusk and got to the highway at 10:30. The soybeans were up to our waist and made our knees burn, our legs are scratched to hell, pretty sure there are still thorns in my feet, and we all probably have poison oak. We came home, took showers, ate chicken pie, green beans and deviled eggs and then smoked pot. Probably the most ridiculous trip down the river we've ever taken. |

i feel really weird about posting this, but i'm really at a loss. i don't know how else to tell everyone without having to go over the story again and again. i've already had to tell it twice tonight and i don't think i can take it again.
gruff was attacked and killed by a pack of dogs tonight. i have no idea how he got out. he has been an indoor cat his entire life and didn't stand a chance against them.
he was the best friend i've ever had and i don't know what i'm going to do without him. i feel like my entire insides are empty.
i miss that fat guy so much. he was the best cat, ever. |

nancy's back! look, there she is. and just in time, i had a really long weekend in preparation for a really hard week at work. friday we had breakfast with rachel and later went to a lame all-ages dance show (sorry ian, play for grownups) and then a crazy hip hop basement dance party with ilana. nancy and joe and i found a dead squirrel in the road the next day and i'm kicking myself for not having it taxidermied. we had all-you-can-eat chinese food buffet and went to the d.i. where i bought a talking urkel doll and some moon boots. then yesterday we picked up her friend greg and got some vietnamese sarnies and headed to the river. it was most excellent, even though my hermit skin glowed like it was under a black light. we got back to town and got drunk on champagne while we played video games. i love my bffs. taylor, come back and play with us.

- Finished watching all seasons of The Office and I can't wait for the new season!

Edit: Elisha and I went down to Camden and went to American Apparel and a little farmer's market. Then we took the Lite Rail to 7th street and ate at Soho Cafe and then went back! I hadn't rode on the Lite Rail until now and it was really nice and clean. There was no real reason to buy tickets but it was fun to pretend I was in someplace else rather than Charlotte. Eh, sometimes I like it here. |

my going-ons:
so i'm caught up on big brother now.
kristy gave me her car to use over the summer while she's away.
other than the $77 it takes to fill, i am so incredibly happy to have acquired it and to be easily independent again. i forgot what it's like to be able to fuck off whenever and wherever i want to.
i'm in the middle of watching the darjeeling limited and 2 days in paris and i also just downloaded the flight of the conchords.
for some reason i always get into tv shows and movies in the summer time.
i'm also really in love with that i kissed a girl song.
it's fun to dance in my underwear to.
i've been slowly admitting this lately: the nest-builder in me really wants to start filling the nest.
unfortunately though, i'm pretty sure the rest of me/my life feel otherwise.
i was lead yesterday. it wasn't bad at all!
i just kept forgetting about the tvs.
and the captain had to call me to check the security of my door once.
but otherwise i feel really good about it. and a little better about the job too.
i'm also pretty happy to have just discovered a later commuter flight, reducing my 3 hour wait to a 1 hour wait, prior to my red-eyes.
halifax again tomorrow!
this time i am firm on my plans to sit and read in the public gardens, and not to dinner-date.
i think i'll be getting an apartment with my sister this september. maybe in winnipeg, maybe in vancouver.
it depends on where she decides to go to school really, and i'm excited about the possibility of either.
i forgot to bid for my august schedule so i'm in the middle of rearranging everything they gave me.
it's a bit uncomfortable not knowing when i'll be working or where i'll be going in august.
i ordered a new sleep mask off etsy a few weeks ago and it finally came today. i'm so excited at the prospect of deep sleeps again.
oh and also, i woke up this morning with a very strong urge to repierce my nose.
it might happen. |

last night, meeting up with justin, trevor, teenie and amanda in mcclean park lead to checking out the new saturday night at the met (bad kids). thankfully proximity to justin meant being pulled out of line, ushered inside and stamped without dropping a dollar - i barely pay cover for anything anymore and i get incredulous when i have to... not that it's anything to brag about - it's exactly the opposite. i had a reasonably good time, mostly because it had been 2 weeks since i'd had anything to drink and about 3 since i've "gone out".
at one point justin and i were standing by the dance floor when we kept hearing bottles breaking. we saw some girl doing it and pointed her out to a bouncer -- i was annoyed because i was wearing tiny shoes with no socks and was affraid of getting glass in my feet. in the end it actually turned out to be amanda and marek, who were sitting right beside us.
anyway the point of all of this is that i just remembered that part of my dream last night involved pulling many shards of glass, some of them quite long, out of the soles of my feet. it was one of those dreams that involved experiencing a distinct physical feeling -- the intense shivery/tickley feeling of pulling out something sharp that's been driven into the thick skin on the bottom of your foot.
also i think i may have quit my job and i think i may be unemployed. |
